If I remember well, there was a suggestion in Edinburgh that RAs + other
interested prosynth members should meet up in Cambridge relatively soon and
discuss various details of the work.
I've talked to Sebastian and Paul and suggested next Friday as a
possibility. Next Friday because (1) the madness over abstracts for San
Francisco will have hopefully subsided by then and (2) I have a
tonsilectomy scheduled on 19/10 and, apparently, I might have to be off
work for up to 2 weeks.
The items which, I think, should be discussed at the meeting are:
1. Details of labelling (clarify possible confusions over the labelling
system, decide about criteria for difficult cases, such as diphthongs,
multiple bursts, etc)
2. Review how far who's got with labelling. (Finishing hand-correction of
labelling as soon as we can is crucial; from the UCL point of view - we
can't start analysing f0 before we have labelling reliable and files
available)
3. Discussing/deciding what speech analysis package we'll use, SFS or
x-Waves (for this we'll need Mark's opinion, I think, whether there are
ways of converting stuff done in waves to SFS and whether thus people can
continue working with x-Waves).
4. Looking at scripts people have written for waves (if they are willing to
show them!) and possibly sharing them.
Could you please voice your opinions on the date, agenda, etc? If other
people would like to participate, it would be very useful (especially Sarah
and Rachel - re labelling...).
Next Friday might seem a bit rushed but if we have a meeting later (i.e.
beginning of November the earliest if I am to participate), we should make
sure that the labelling criteria are really clear and the labelling goes
on. I know it all seems a bit too much now that the term started...
All the best,
Jana
