I agree with Mark, Sebastian adn John that identifying start and stop
points is useful.

The work I've done where particular points in the file must be located has
used marks, not labels. Marks allows you to put points wherever you like
(and we do tend to identify start and stop of segments). As far as I
remember, we were advised to use marks instead of labels for this reason
by Entropic, but it was so long ago I can't be sure.

More authoritative answers may be obtained from Andrew Slater or Noel
Nguyen, both of whom are probably happy to advise.
