    Dear All,

the Monday passed without the proposed decisions, but nevertheless things
are clearer now (knowing that we have the extension). Here is my view on
    the current test planning/preparing/running situation:

    a) the extension of the project gives us time till approximatly the middle
of May. That means we should aim for finishing testing end of April or
the during the first week of May at the latest.

    b) We will go for the factorial, so we have to finish the pre-test in time
to be able to use the results for the preparation of the factorial.

    c) The factorial experiment for the testing of the interaction of the
manipulations of the three sites will require up to 80 subjects, that
means we need 4 weeks at least.

    d) The preparation of the stimuli might take about 2 weeks. That sums
up to six weeks that we have to count for running the factorial
experiment. The preparation should be done before the end of March
because Paul and Rachael won't get paid by the grant afterwards
    (is that right?).

    e) From now on we have about 12 weeks altogether. Take two at the end for
analysing and writing. Take another 6 for the factorial. That leaves us 4
weeks for the pretest. The York pretest should not need that long, so we
may delay the York-test till the UCL and the Cambridge pre-tests are
ready. This would allow us to run the test together and also gives us
some time to pilot the possibility for running the York test with
    cognitive load instead of noise.

    f) What is the status of the UCL stimuli preparation? Is more discussion
re material for the pretest needed?

    g) I think we should start the pretest on Monday the 6th of March, test
for two weeks and have one week for analysis and discussion about the
consequences of the results for the factorial test.
Jill, Rachael: do you think you can prepare the stimuli in that time?
Earlier? I don't think that Cambridge could be ready for a pretest before
that, but it might be good to start the UCL-test as soon as possible,
because it's likely to require more subjects than the other two pretest.
Tell us if you need any help, advice, to talk, etc...

Please sent me your comments. Do you think the timing is realistic?
Do you think I forgot something that needs to be taken into account?
    Any wishes, suggestions?

            Sebastian
