    Dear Relevance List Subscribers,

Attached below you will find information about bursaries our centre is
offering for a nine month MPhil course we run (apologies for multiple
postings). I might add to this information by pointing out that Cambridge
generally has a healthy amount scholarship funds partly due to the
beneficence of Bill Gates. The Gates scholarship is open to non-UK
post-graduate students only. Details of this can be found on the RCEAL web
page indicated below. I might also add that we welcome students who are
interested in pursuing relevance theoretic issues - especially in an
experimental framework or in relation to formal approaches to discourse and
    dialogue.

    regards,

    Richard Breheny.

    ===================================================

The Research Centre for English and Applied Linguistics at The University
of Cambridge now has a bursary scheme for their M PHIL IN ENGLISH AND
    APPLIED LINGUISTICS.

Applications from candidates, normally resident in Great Britain or the
European Union Countries, are invited to enter the competition for the
    RCEAL Bursary Scheme.

Up to two full bursaries may be awarded, each year, to candidates accepted
for a place on the M Phil in English and Applied Linguistics. A full
bursary is intended to cover the cost of the University Composition Fees,
College Membership Fee and Maintenance for the duration of the nine-month
    course.

In addition, two partial bursaries will be awarded, each year, to
candidates accepted for a place on the M Phil in English and Applied
Linguistics. A partial bursary is intended to cover the cost of the
University Composition fee and the College Membership Fee.

Applications will be judged on the basis of comparative academic
achievement and promise. Candidates intending to apply for a bursary
should state this clearly on the Application for Admission as a Graduate
Student (CIGAS) Form in Section S. The details of where to obtain these
forms can be found at http://www.rceal.cam.ac.uk

If you intend to apply for a RCEAL bursary the deadline for submission of
the CIGAS application form is 31 March.

Successful candidates will be notified by 1 June. Bursaries, or
scholarships, obtained by the candidate from other sources will be deducted
from the award offered by RCEAL. Candidates are not eligible for a bursary
from RCEAL if they are awarded a full bursary, or scholarship, from other
    sources.

Students intending to continue to undertake research for a PhD (having
successfully obtained the M Phil at the required level) should note that
there are a number of different sources available within the University as
well as the Arts and Humanities Research Board (AHRB). RCEAL may also make
a further contribution to PhD students.

Queries about the RCEAL Bursary scheme should be addressed to the Graduate
    Secretary at bej12@cam.ac.uk

Further information about University/college awards and AHRB awards may be
obtained from the Board of Graduate Studies at
