3. SUBJECT AREA: The University's Linguistics Department has developed a program that uses sounds, X-rays and animation for teaching articulatory phonetics and International Phonetic Alphabet symbols. Developed under the direction of Dr. San Duanmu.

OTHER SPECIFIC DETAILS: The Phonetic Training Tools Program, is a collection of phonetic training tools to help students learn & relate 3 aspects of articulatory phonetics: the IPA symbol for each sound, the featural description of the sound, and the vocal tract movements in producing the sound. PTT is designed to be interesting and easy to use. No instructor supervision is necessary for the use of the program.
