Dear All,
I'd like to congratulate Tomoko Matsui, whose book BRIDGING AND
RELEVANCE (John Benjamins, 2000) has just been awarded the 2001
Ichikawa Award for the best achievement in English Linguistics by
a young scholar in Japan.
The Ichikawa prize was started in 1966, when Dr Sanki Ichidawa
(1886-1970), a prominent Japanese linguist, donated money to the
Institute for Research in Language Teaching on reaching his 80th birthday.
It is a well-known prize among Japanese Linguists, and a great honour
to receive it. Many congratulations to Tomoko (and her book) on this
well-deserved distinction.
All the best,
Deirdre
