Connecting Non Departmental PCs to the Phon & Ling Network
Two connection socket points are provided for connecting
PCs not configured and owned by the department of Phonetics and
Linguistics network. to this department's network. This allows
connection to the Internet as well as printing to the Department's
printers and shared networked disks. These PCs must be connected only
to the sockets provided for this. The sockets are:-
Wolfson House: Socket number 139 iin Computer Room G33
21 Gordon Square: multiple designated sockets in Room 1 - for use by
PhD students of the Department only.
Before connecting, this form
must be completed and signed by a staff member of Phonetics
and Linguistics.
To configure the PC for this connection, under TCP/IP networking
configuration, set the option to obtain network address automatically,
referred to as DHCP. You must also ensure that the PC has a
network name or identifier entered.
As this is a trial system there, may be breaks in service and delays
before restoration.
