[V] and [Q] are indeed used as in the document Sarah sent.
Sarah, I don't really understand a comment of yours where you summarise
the changes from my document (in which I forgot about SON, of course,
since I actually produced the document from a YorkTalk one). You say that
"where no Y/N is specified, the feature merely needs to be set (ie
specified rather than absent)". I assume you're referring to the "liquids
& glides" classes, where you give alternative sets of features:
VOCHEIGHT SON=Y or CNSGRV NAS=N SON=Y
I think liquids & glides are actually defined as
CNT=Y SON=Y
My original document may have been misleading: all consonants have CNS
and VOC attributes, though only liquids and glides have values for VOC
attributes (VOCGRV, VOCHEIGHT, VOCRND). In any case, these features all
have values in the xml files either through sharing values with adjacent
vowels or through defaults. In the xml, wherever there's a CNS all the
features are there and have values specified. The only 'absent' things
as far as I see it are bits of structure like CODA in open syllables.
Otherwise, many thanks for putting right my omissions.
Sorry for the delay in replying: new computer and printer only just hooked
up in our lab so I've only just read the document.
Best wishes,
Paul
