Re: Cambridge Report on Perceptual Testing

On reading Sebastian's rpogress report very fast, I see a couple of things
that may bear explanation.

1. Section A.1.
I think t(df) should read t(21) in York table headings. It should be the
total number of Ss tested, minus 1. It is the 'degrees of freedom', and
affects the interpretation of the significance level of the t-value
obtained (i.e. its value is important!)

in Cambridge table, '3pho' means and analysis of just 3 phonemes in teh
phrase; 'phrase' means an analysis done on all phonemes in the phrase.

2. Appendix 1.
N = number of responses (these are unequal at present owing to throwing
subkects out for viarous (reputable) reasons. The Ns will be equal when
we've finished testing.

mean percent of phonemes correct (over the entire phrase, I think, but
maybe just in the word whose timing was altered - I forget; Sebastian will
know).

r > w w > r should share a common heading: difference in % correct
phonemes between 'right' and 'wrong' timed versions.

r > w = column in which all differences are positive, meaning right
version had higher intelligibility than wrong timed version

w < r = column in which all differences are negative, meaning right
version had lower intelligibility that wrong timed version.
This column should, of course, be headed 'w > r', or else 'r < w'.
Apologies for the error.

best

Sarah
