Dear all,

Here are the votes of the York jury.

We would like to test the following bits of structure in sw feet:

a long vowels versus short vowels in 1st syllable
b ambisyllabicity versus nonambisyllabicity
c branching codas versus nonbranching codas in 1st syllable

These divisions give us heavy versus light foot-initial syllables
epiphenomenally.

We therefore propose 8 sets:

long ambi branching number of tokens
1 - + - 25
2 - + + 13
3 - - - 14
4 - - + 11
5 + + - 36
6 + + + 6
7 + - - 27
8 + - + 9

As you can see, the cells are far from being of equal size. We've
included all the possibilities below so that Sarah and Sebastian can
choose which tokens from the larger cells would be most suitable for the
test. Will 6 tokens be a large enough size? If not, we may have to ignore
one or two of the sets outlined here.

Hopefully at least some of this will coincide with Jill & Jana's plans.

Below are the tokens which YorkTalk can parse in a satisfactory manner.

Best wishes,

Paul (with John & Richard).
