If I am talking as a prelude to a round-table discussion on speech rhythm,
how long a talk would you like? 15-30 minutes? I would expect the talk to
include some or all of the following:

* A brief presentation of ProSynth's approach, explaining the use of a rich
hierarchical structure, implemented in XML, to integrate linguistic
information and act as the mechanism for generating natural-sounding speech.

* A closer look at the structural units identified as important for
modelling speech rhythm, and at the mechanisms (temporal
overlay/compression) used in phonetic interpretation.

* The importance of the timing model in constraining the interpretation of
a) F0 patterns
b) the segments within a syllable.

Does this sound like the information you need?

Best wishes,

Jill House
