As requested by Sarah, here is a copy of the notes I made while working
through the group 1 label files. Much of this will be superseded by our
new more detailed labels, but I send this for your information.
These notes are in addition to my e-mail of 17th June and the document I
gave out at our meeting on Sunday.
0020 [t] closure only because followed by [s]
[sl] laterality seems to start at approx t=0.5957; boundary
placed at (later) end of friction
0023 [h] end after breathiness; voicing starts at t=0.21143
0032 [Iz] lots of overlap. [I] placed at t=0.26444 but the
non-friction portion seems to end at t=0.24689 (ie
after only 2 glottal pulses) or even earlier
0037 [I] some voicing continues into [s]
0039 [t] glottal stop rather than apical
0047 [wI] unsure about boundary
0048 [t@] voiceless portion with formants included in [@]; glottal
stop as boundary between [@] and [A]
0067 [ef] boundary marked at cessation of voicing, but [f] friction
doesn't really start until around t=0.604
0068 [Vz] boundary placed one pulse after onset of friction, at
a point where there is a great drop in formant amplitude;
formant structure continues until about t=0.633
0071 [sm] pause between [s] and [m], counted as part of [m]
0077 [mf] boundary marked at cessation of formant structure but [f]
friction doesn't really start until about t=0.591; voicing
seems to cease at around t=0.563; spike (glottal stop?)
at t=0.58268
0078 [pl] voiceless portion of lateral included with [p]; start of
voiceless lateral at approx t=0.416
[nT] boundary marked at cessation of formants; cessation of
voicing at approx t=0.670?; onset of friction (with
burst-like spike) at t=0.6946
0079 [ns] boundary at cessation of formants; voicing ends at around
t=0.624; spike at t=0.64376; onset of friction at around
t=0.668
0088 [Il] unsure of boundary
0091 [rQ] boundary placed at start of F3 transition and increase in
F2 amplitude; there is a spike at the end of F3 transition
at t=0.44413
0092 [k] spike at closure into [k] included in [@]; [k] includes
voiceless lateral
0093 [It] creaky voice in [I]
0096 [et] spike included in [t], not end of [e]
0101 [ID@] relatively strong friction in [D] does not start until
around t=0.258
0111 [D] used for dental nasal
0112 [kl] voiceless lateral included in [k]
Best wishes,
Paul
