Dear Nigel,

Following my earlier response to your letter of 18 March, I am now in a
position to respond jointly with my Prosynth colleagues to your proposals
for a workshop in September.

Dates: our preferred option would be the week beginning Monday 14
September. The following week (21/22 September) is also possible. The
weeks of 7 Sept and 28 Sept are impossible for some of us.

Reviewers: we feel very positive about reviewers from outside as well as
within the UK, and would welcome feedback and constructive evaluation. For
our own project, we suggest that a prominent linguistic phonetician should
be represented (e.g. Peter Roach), and/or an established expert in speech
synthesis who is knowledgeable about and sympathetic to linguistic issues
(e.g. Rolf Carlson; Eric Keller). Linguistic and phonetic theory is very
much at the heart of our project, and it will be beneficial both to
ProSynth and EPSRC if we can persuade people of this calibre and background
to participate in the review process.

We look forward to hearing from you about the final arrangements.
