I think Mark did jolly well (though I can't listen to it right now cos
there's an error message relating to a connection here at UCL), but it's
Sarah who needs to be the best judge of the results. Perhaps Mark wants me
to comment on the challenge of achieving those results... Well, it takes a
little longer to get satisfactory recordings than when one is reading
straight text, but it was all achievable quite quickly, after a bit of
practice. It's a case of getting into the swing.

I reckon it would be a bit daunting to have to record a LOT of reiterant
speech in one session. I would suggest that it is done in small doses, to
capture specific VCV combinations you want to model, and that we deal with
it separately from the phase 1 database proper. The actual phrases that
are reiterated should be taken from the database, of course.

Please could people comment on the draft group 1 items for the database I
sent yesterday, and on Alex's parses to date. If we're going to stick with
this idea of a phase 1 database, and I think there are still powerful
arguments for doing so, we need to expand it to cover the other basic
structures. It doesn't take THAT long to dream up examples, but if I have
to sit down and do it all myself it's going to have to be spread
inefficiently over some time, which will make getting it recorded even
later, etc etc.

All the best,

Jill
