Dear Ali and Sarah, but especially Ali:

***Brilliant work!***
THANKS!

some suggestions for reducing the lists:
* remove proper nouns
* remove foreign words eg. "canton", "centime"
* remove uncommon words (I believe these are coded in OALD?)
* remove compound words eg. 'cesspit', 'codpiece' (sorry, I know you
*wanted* to synthesise those words..!)
* ?remove words with full vowels outside stressed syllable, eg. "cantor"
* remove inflected words (eg. plurals)

Perhaps I mean "exclude", not "remove".

I don't know how many this will reduce the list by.
You say the lists don't cover all the things you're interested in at
Cambridge -- could you tell us what is missing?

Tempting fate --- is there anything you need me to do? JKL won't be around
much next week (just Monday I believe). I could do something on Monday if
need be.

We've looked round for a speaker here, but there's no one really suitable.

Richard
