Dear Sarah,
You've done a really good job with the report -- thanks. I see Mark has
already forwarded the publication refs from our IGR, which I was about to
offer!
I tend to agree with him about the Project Plan Review. I found myself
feeling uncomfortable when it came to details about maternity leave etc,
and the arguments defending MW's appointment and RK's studentship. Nothing
that wasn't true, but it reads defensive -- and is probably par for the
course on grants as a whole -- as if they weren't getting good value for
money, which as far as I can see they were, very. So if I were making cuts
I would do so in sections 4 and 7.1, and ditch section 8 which I think is
covered elsewhere. No obligation to fill 6 pages, especially on a grant of
this size. But the earlier part of the report is really excellent.
Don't see why you shouldn't get it out tomorrow. When you have a final
version, I'll print it out and send more copies from UCL, which will
doubtless feed their recycling bins.
O frabjous day, calloo callay, the gas man hath come, and I am beginning to
feel warmth again in my radiators and my toes. In other words I had a
well-timed CH breakdown just as the weather turned cold last week, but I
may not have to cancel Christmas after all!
Love, Jill
