PROSYNTH: PHASE 1 DATABASE
Jill House, Jan 1998
Group 1 (expanded, Jan 1998, to differentiate between monomorphemic
and polymorphemic rhymes exemplifying particular coda clusters, where possible,
and re-classifying "blockers")*. Alternative classifications
are suggested for the polymorphemic rhymes.

Summary of Group 1
- single AG
- single foot
- foot onsets may be word-initial (WI) or word-medial (WM)
- all feet are monosyllabic (s)
- stressed syllables are both heavy and light
- rime types are well represented (including types specified on York's
list)
- onset types are less controlled, but include a strong representation
of liquids.
This group gives us a basic set of 113 "nuclear" monosyllables
to work on. It should be possible in due course to devise a "control"
set which matches these specifications.
Group 2 (in progress) will represent the set of structures:
- single AG
- single foot
- foot onset syllable may be WI, WM or WF (i.e. word boundary location
will vary)
- foot = 2 syllables: (s w)
- stressed syllables may be heavy or light
- rime types well represented (some codas ambisyllabic, some not)
- onsets various (not closely controlled)
