RT list: Context availability and speed

Dear List,

Having accepted the RT position that comprehenders cannot just be limited to
context that is 'given' or 'shared', but greedily scan all contexts that
might yield a relevant interpretation, I was wondering (in an exchange on
the list ca. Jan 2004) if the idea that our knowledge is structured in
schemas was enough to explain this, especially when processing new
information. Someone (Robyn Carston?) sent me a reference or two about the
amazing speed with which the brain can retrieve information, which convinced
me. Can anyone recall this/these reference(s) ?
(There was something about this in Matsui 1998 (critique of Sanford and
Garrod 's 1981 account of bridging references) and/or Carston 2002, but I
think there is more.)
Thanks for any help,

Best

Robin
