    Eighth National Pragmatics Symposium of China (NPSC), Guangzhou, Aug. 7-9, 2003
    Venue: The National Research Center for Linguistics and Applied Linguistics, Guangdong University of Foreign Studies, Guangzhou, P. R. China

    Theme: Pragmatics in the Chinese Context, which includes the following topics: (1) retrospect and future development of pragmatics in China; (2) methods in pragmatic research; (3) pragmatics in situated daily conversations, (4) pragmatics and Chinese culture
    and (5) pragmatics and its application to language teaching and learning.

    Key-note speakers: Jef Verschueren, Deirdre Wilson, Gabriel Kasper, Jenny Thomas and scholars from PRC, Hong Kong and Japan
