Summary — Part II
Displacement of BM causes shearing between top of hair-cells and tectorial membrane.
OHCs provide feedback of energy into system causing increased movement of BM at the place specific to that excitation frequency.
Displacement of IHC stereocilia causes IHC to release neurotransmitter at synapse to auditory nerve.
Auditory nerve fibres show:
- increased firing to increased stimulus intensity.
- stronger response at stimulus onsets.
- Firing that is synchronised with stimulus phase at low/mid frequencies.
