RT list: for help

Dear all,
 
nE.g. someone is taken on a wild goose chase up the garden path

        a bottle neck is strangling the traffic flow

These are two examples of mixed metaphor, we can sense some kind of incongruity  in them, but can anyone show in detail how the mixed metaphor works in them? thanks.
