The proliferation of pragmatics journals should go hand in hand with
rigorous standards concerning originality - I am not sure that one sees
many original contributions to knowledge published these days, and
certainly not at the level of Paul Grice.

Certainly, the days when John Lyons and other gentlemen of old times kept
high academic standards by impartiality are over and for good.

Anyway, we will judge by what we see.
