No weak form!

Many common function words words have both a strong form and a weak form.

For example, them has a strong form /Dem/ but a weak form /D@m/. Unless the word is specially emphasized, it is usually pronounced in its weak form.

All these words have a strong form and a weak form: can, must, are, was, from, than, of. (Can you transcribe their strong form and weak form?)

I can see them. /aI k@n "si: D@m/

But there are some function words that have no weak form. Examples are

They are pronounced the same way whether stressed or unstressed.

Off to school, then? /"Qf t@ "sku:l Den/

Right on time! /"raIt Qn "taIm/
