 <-sten>, <-stle>

In verbs ending <-sten> the t is silent. The e is usually silent too. So the ending is usually pronounced /sn/. Here are some examples:

christen fasten glisten hasten listen moisten
/"krIsn/ /"fA:sn/ /"glIsn/ /"heIsn/ /"lIsn/ /"mOIsn/

The ending <-stle> is similar. The t is silent and there is no vowel. The pronunciation is /sl/. Examples:

apostle bristle castle nestle rustle whistle
/@"pQsl/ /"brIsl/ /"kA:sl/ /"nesl/ /"rVsl/ /"wIsl/
