<qu>

At the beginning of a word, the sequence <qu> is (as you probably know already) nearly always pronounced /kw/.  Elsewhere, however, there are quite a few words where the pronunciation is simply /k/.  Here are a few examples:

antique exchequer torque
barque liquor unique
cheque liquorice  
coquette marque  
croquet marquetry
