Consonant sequences involving affricates

The two affricate phonemes of English are /tS dZ/. Examples: church judge. In some respects they are like the plosives /t d/, but in one respect they are different. Plosives may lack an audible release when they are followed by other plosives or by affricates. Affricates always have an audible fricative release, no matter what follows them. It is quite a common pronunciation error to say /"QrInd "dZu:s/ for orange juice, instead of /"QrIndZ "dZu:s/. Both affricates must be fully pronounced.
