Teachingby Richard Hudsonlast updated 16 March 2011 NB Since I've now retired, I no longer do any teaching so this page is no longer developing but I'm leaving it up, in the hope that someone may still find it helpful. Click here for some information about choosing linguistics as a degree course, with special emphasis on sociolinguistics. Courses on Word Grammar1. An introductory course called Foundations of English Grammar, based on my textbook "English Grammar" (Routledge, 1998). Taught for the last time in October-December 2003. 2. A second-level course called "Word Grammar". Taught for the last time in January-March 2003.
Course on SociolinguisticsThis second-level course is based on my textbook "Sociolinguistics 2nd Edition" (Cambridge University Press 1996). Taught for the last time in January-March 2004. The web site contains quite a lot of web-based material as well as the handouts. Text-book publishingI feel linguistics students often hit theory (often very grand Theory!) too soon; in my opinion they should have much more experience of applying low-level linguistic analysis and much less theory in the early stages. To try to encourage a shift in favour of analysis, I edited a series (now closed) of entry-level books called the Routledge Language Workbooks.
