A-level English Language examinations

In September 1999 the Linguistics at School section of the LAGB organised a discussion of the current examinations at A-level (Advanced level, normally taken at age 18 in schools in the UK except Scotland). The speakers were Professor Michael Hoey (Liverpool University and member of the NEAB examining board) and Mr Tony Tinkel (The Oratory School, Maidenhead and Chief Examiner for the OCR examining board).

Tony Tinkel's talk dealt with the background and explained how the exams and syllabi are all being revised by QCA He also produced a helpful list of examining boards.

Michael Hoey described the NEAB syllabus.
