Speech Recording and Analysis Workshop

This workshop has been jointly organised by the Institute of Acoustics Speech & Hearing Group and the UCL Centre for Human Communication. The workshop is designed to be of interest to speech and language therapists, teachers of the deaf, educational audiologists and clinical audiologists engaged in habilitation or research.

Intended Learning Outcome: Understand the issues involved in making recordings of sufficiently high quality to allow the acoustic analysis of speech.

Topics will include: Fundamentals of making digital speech recordings and storing data. What you will need to be aware of when making purchasing decisions. Analysis of speech recordings: spectrography and the measurement of formant frequencies, pitch and voice quality.

Learning methods: The day will include a series of plenary sessions and hands on lab sessions led by experts in the field. A certificate of attendance will be awarded to participants.
