Experimental PhoneticsCourse Home PageThis course aims to provide an introduction to the methodology of Experimental Phonetics and its application to contemporary issues in Phonetics. It is open to all graduate students within the Division of Psychology and Language Sciences. The course module code is PLING208, and it is a 15-credit module. The course starts Thursday 9th January 2014 at 10am in Room B07, Chandler House, 2 Wakefield Street. The course runs for 10 weeks in term 2, at 3 hours/week. Assessment is by a Lab Report (2,000 words) 50%, and a 2-hour written examination 50%. OverviewThe aims of this module are to introduce essential knowledge and skills in experimental phonetics. The course will include hands-on experience of speech recording and analysis, together with experimental design and a review of current scientific theories of speech production and their application. The course will include introductions to a range of experimental phonetic topics, which may vary from year to year. Topics might typically include:
